I worked with the editors of Drink Me to produce this "4th-of-July" image specifically for their July/Aug issue:
This image was created in-camera using light painting techniques.
Here is how it appeared in the magazine:

In a bit of a departure from wine photos or other stock photography, here are selected shots of some of the best track athletes in the U.S., taken at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships. This is a 4-day event where the top athletes, some at college level, most post-collegiate professionals (and this year, one just-graduated high school senior) attempt to make the U.S. team that will compete at the world championship in Berlin this August.
This year's US Championship was held here in Eugene, Oregon, at the University of Oregon's historic Hayward Field. This stadium was home for track legends such as Steve Prefontaine, Nike founder Phil Knight, & Alberto Salazar, as well as new stars emerging from the U of O, such as Galen Rupp (see photos of Galen below).
Olympian LaShawn Merritt:
Olympian Anna Willard:
Olympian Christin Wurth:
High school senior (just graduated) Jordan Hasay - she's one of the very best high school runners in the country. She's selected the University of Oregon so we're looking forward to seeing her run here for the next four years.
University of Oregon runner Jordan McNamara:
One of our favorite runners ever, Galen Rupp, earned a record 6 NCAA titles this year as a senior at the University of Oregon, prior to winning the U.S. title in the 10K running against the pros this weekend. Galen ran the 10K in the Olympics last year and placed 13th, but put up a great fight was the first non-African to cross the line. We're going to miss watching him run for the Ducks but hope we'll see him back in Eugene for annual Prefontaine Classic, and look forward to seeing his performance at the Olympic Trials in 2012, also to be held here in Eugene.
Wow, Donald!! That's so freaking cool. Congratulations! :) read more
